One Fine Day

one fine day

About two or three years ago, I made a point to always make time for myself.  It was difficult in the beginning because 1) the society has conditioned us to think that if we’re not busy then we’re lazy, 2) I’m a workaholic and 3) I didn’t know what to do with myself.  At first, I’d take short breaks – leave the desk for lunch, stop by a bookstore or 30 minutes walk by the beach…  Now I just pick a day or two out of the week and not work.  I’ll be honest, even typing this makes me feel guilty.  What would my clients think?!  However, I learn to let that negative feeling go fairly quickly because I know, in the end, the break from work will be beneficial to me personally and professionally.  It’s good to go out, get some fresh air, see some friends, talk about things that bother you, hear different perspectives and feel energized again.  I often tell myself this: Even superheroes feel defeated and need to rest sometimes.

  1. I struggle so much with feeling lazy if I’m not busy. I feel like I’m wasting away my day…but like you said, society really has conditioned us to feel that way! I love taking time for myself during the week. It helps me get my creative juices flowing, as well as reenergizes me.

Love this Bon! And can’t wait for our massages Monday!

  3. A rest day from work to re-energise yourself is so important. I know I work much, much better when I’ve had time to let myself recharge and renew and just do what I want to do.

  4. Rest days are ESSENTIAL!!! xoxo

Great reminder! I couldn’t agree more that breaks are so important, for the personal and the professional. Especially as a creative I feel like it is so important to get away from work every now and then to re-fresh our minds and seek inspiration.

  8. I know what you mean — I am so tough on myself… rarely do I give myself permission to take a break and when I do… I feel absolutely unproductive and lazy. However! I recently realized that time off is 100% needed… like you said, professionally and personally! Now I enjoy my time off… I’m not going to lie, it’s still tough! BUT — I am definitely enjoying it. :) I hope you enjoy your time off! As I’m sure you will. :)

I’m totally with you on that. I beat myself for resting sometimes but that’s absolutely not the solution! Breathing room is what makes us thrive I’ve learnt
