[travel] Road Trip, June 2012 / Day 2

Continue from Day 1…
Day 2 Itinerary -
09:30am Breakfast at Mama’s
03:00pm Avenue of the Giants
10:00pm Jacksonville, OR.
After a good night sleep at Omni Hotel, Miss V and I started the morning at Mama’s with Erin for breakfast. I always wanted to go to Mama’s, but the line would scare me off. Happy that Erin braved the line with us (thanks, Erin!). I ordered the Pan Dore, which is slices of Sour French Baguette with Sauteed Apples in Lemon Butter Sauce. mmm… It was really good!
Around 11am, we made a quick stop at Hamilton, CA. for gas and picked up some pastries for the road at La Boulange Bakery before headed to Avenue of the Giants. The drive was about 4+ hours, in between we made a stop at The Peg House Grill in Leggett, CA. for lunch. By the time we arrived to Avenue of the Giants it was already 3pm. Originally, we didn’t plan to stay long, but the magic of nature and being surrounded by the “giants” had us wandered longer than expected and dropped the plan to visit a small town, Ferndale.
When we arrived to Jacksonville it was 10pm and we were dead tired. Thankfully, TouVelle House, which was provided by Hotels.com, took good care of us and we were able to go straight to bed for some much needed rest.
More tomorrow!

So fun! I grew up in Humboldt County. Amazing to see your stunning photos bring something so familiar to me to life! I’m driving “home” for a wedding in a couple weeks. Might have to give The Peg House a try. How was it? (And isn’t Ferndale the sweetest little postcard of a town?!)
your photography can really take me inside those places, streets and somehow fell closer to those people.
Thanks for being so genious!
Loved your trip and the big three !
I saw your pin on Pinterest and what grabbed me was the pictures of the Avenue. I grew up there as child (in Pepperwood) and currently live and work in Ferndale. I spent a lot of time on that specific stump that is in your picture. As kids, it was believed that stump was “bottomless”. If you climb up on the top, the stump is actually hollow. Since it gets so dark under the canopy of the trees, you can’t always see the bottom of the stump, therefore giving it the illusion of being “bottomless”. We would ride our bikes down to the river, fill our backpacks with the largest rock we could possibly carry, and back to that stump just to throw it in the hole to see if we could “hear” it. I wonder if it’s still full of rocks today? Lol. Glad you enjoyed your trip! Beautiful pictures!
Gorgeous, Bon! I feel like I got to take the trip with you! xoxo
I just came back from a road trip, and I officially have the bug. I love your pictures! But the real reason I’m commenting is because I just wanted to say that Miss V is the cutest thing ever.
